There really was a lot to do in San Diego, but we didn't want to stress ourselves out with planning details, so we didn't really make definite plans before we left. Everyday we woke up and said, "What should we do today?" And whatever we felt like doing, we did.
We got to San Diego on Saturday. I had a little cold when we left and was sniffing the whole flight. Of coarse the air plains never have tissues just napkins. My poor nose! When we got ready to land, my ears wouldn't pop. I tried everything, swallowing, yawning, chewing gum, but nothing worked. I was brave but my ears did hurt a little and it lasted fo
r a couple hours.
Sunday, we went to church and you'll never guess who was there. Elder Ballard, was on vacation. He went to the 9am block and we went to the 11am block so we saw him but just briefly when their sacrament meeting was over. I didn't get to shake his hand or anything, but it was still cool. That evening we went to Coronado Beach. We had a great time just relaxing in the sun. We waded through the water a bit but for some odd reason the water made my legs itch! Briant really liked the Hotel Del Coronado, and we ended up chilling on their beach because all other beaches along there had a lot of seaweed crap.
Monday, we went to play in the ocean and chill on the beach some more. This time though we went to the Del Mar Beach. It was a little nicer and not as crowded. Before we left we applied sunscreen. The ocean is amazing! It was a little cold at first and no fun to get salt water in your mouth, but after I got used to it I loved it. Except for the part when the wave crashed right on top of me, and I was slammed onto the sandy floor. I came up spitting water out, and Briant laughing at me the whole time. I've never really played in the ocean that much before, we had a great time rolling with the waves. We came in for a w
hile to play in the sand (i had some fun burying Briant), but before you know it we were back in the water. I know how important it is not to get sunburned so I checked on the bottle and I made sure it was waterproof and it was, so I put my faith in the product and we laid in the sun some more. When we left we realized that we had gotten a little sunburned. Well, we learned a great lesson that day about sunblock. When you are that close to the equator you have to reapply it more often, even if you only were in the sun for 2 hours! Plus, I don't really think that it is waterproof in the ocean with all that salt. I think they should put that on the bottle. That night we went to Old Town and ate at a great Mexican place. There was definitely a little touch of Mexico there. When we were stuffed we came back to our hotel and that is when we realized how sunburned we really got that day. I definitely have tan lines, they look like they may be permanent.
Tuesday, we went to Sea World!! Ihave always wanted to go there for two reasons. Shamu and the Dolphins. And we saw shows for both. What incredible animals! We didn't think we would stay all day, but there was so much to do! We saw: Starfish, Sting Rays, Sharks, Polar Bears, Walrus', Dolphins, Acrobats, Otters, Sea Lions, Flamingos, Shrieking Eels, Manatees, and list goes on and on and on. We also rode on the Atlantis Ride and got DRENCHED! My favorites still stands with Shamu and the Dolphins! But touching the Sting Rays was cool too. They are really slimy!
Wednesday, we went to the temple. It was so beautiful and a very special experience.
Later that afternoon we went to Sea Port Village. We walked down the pier and saw the USS Midway. It's HUGE! I've never seen a ship that big in my whole life. It was also fun to walk around to all the little shops, and see all the sail boats near by. Then we went shopping at the huge mall in the middle of the city. Wow! It was three stories high, and half of the stores I've never even heard of. That night we went to a little pizza place. Briant of course had pizza, but I had broccoli, chicken, and of coarse mashed potatoes. I will always be an Idaho girl no matter where I go.
Thursday we came home. We had a great time in San Diego and hope to go back someday. When we got back to our house we found a dead lawn, but with a lot of water, it is coming back fast.
