HELP!!!

This is really frustrating. I can't seem to make rice. I haven't had too many problems in the past... it always turns out fine. I usually make white rice but I really wanted to try brown rice today (because it's healthier). I followed the instructions to the key in my 'On My Own and Clueless' book. That book never steers me wrong, so it must be me, because the bottom got completely burned. Then I made a quick batch of white rice and the same thing happened just not as bad. We were still able to eat the top half :/
So please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Do you have any secrets you'd be willing to share for the sake of my husband and my taste buds? I need a lesson in rice making skills. HELP!

You want my opinion? I'm seriously a PRO at making rice. My secret? A RICE COOKER. Seriously, they're not really expensive, and oh-so-worth it! I HATE making rice on the stove, and I refuse to make/eat minute rice. Hop on over to WalMart or Target and buy a rice cooker, my lady!

I have an Oster steam cooker, it is DIVINE!!!! It takes a bit longer to cook rice but it turns out perfect every time and the clean up is as easy as sticking the plastic bowl in the dishwasher. No scrubbing the pot. No scrubbing the stove top. Not only does it cook rice. Devin would agree it makes the best chicken ever. I could go on and on. It is the best cooking toy ever!

Too bad we don't know any South Americans in the area...they make the best rice, and they don't use rice cookers like ours that break!

My secret to rice:

1 part rice
2 parts water

Get the water just about boiling and then put the lid on the pot and turn down the heat to a low medium. Leave it alone until you stop seeing little spit bubbles pop up on the top, and then leave it just a little bit longer.

DO NOT STIR! I've discovered that if I stir the rice or do anything to it at all, that's when the bottom burns.

Once I started covering it and not stirring it, my rice has turned out perfectly every time.
